Sugarland :: New Country Music Lyrics
Sugarland is an American country music duo composed of two Atlanta, Georgia singer-songwriters: lead singer Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. This group was founded in the year 2003 by Kristen Hall, also a singer-songwriter from Atlanta. Hall, who named the band, was a member until she departed in 2006.
Nettles, Bush, and Hall were all members of Atlanta's folk-rock scene in the 1990s and early 2000s prior to the group's formation. All three played frequently at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, Georgia, which Nettles' husband owned for a time. Nettles had previously played in a band called Soul Miner's Daughter, later forming her own Jennifer Nettles Band. Bush was half of the folk-rock duo Billy Pilgrim, and Hall had a solo career that often crossed paths with the Indigo Girls.
After a number of years of playing together as a band, they was signed to Mercury Nashville Records in 2003. Their debut single, "Baby Girl", was released that same year, eventually setting a record for the longest chart run on the Billboard country charts since the inception of Nielsen SoundScan in 1990. To date, they have released two albums, in addition to charting eight singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. The duo is also the 2007 winner of the Country Music Association's Duo of the Year award.
